Bill Self was one of the nation's most prominent and rich basketball coaches. Bill Self was born on December 27, 1962 in Okmulgee. Self spent the next three years (1998-2000) in Tulsa, where he compiled a Tulsa record of 74-27. Self was the coach of TU's Golden Hurricane team to the first Elite Eight in 1999/2000, creating the school's single-season win record by scoring 32-5. Self was originally born in the town of Okmulgee, OK where his dad was the head coach for the girls' team at Morris High School. He received a basketball award to play basketball at Oklahoma State University. In all four years of playing in the team, he was an honor roll student. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business in 1985 and a master's degree in athletic administration in 1989 from Oklahoma State.
