In 1976, she became famous after she scored her first ever perfect 10 on the bar that was asymmetric at the Montreal Olympic Games. And, to top it off the feat, she achieved another six perfect 10s making her the youngest overall Olympic gold medalist in history, at just 14 years of age. In addition to attracting attention, she helped Romania establish itself as a world-class athlete. By achieving a score that was not possible, this sporting icon brought gymnastics to the forefront of international attention. Public opinion about women athletes was changed due to this feat. This was due to her impact at the Olympics, that both the moves toe-on (toes on) and release are named for her. They've remained until today, as difficult. Apart from the Olympics she also was the hottest athlete during the World Championships and European Championships. Her performance earned her the title of one of the best gymnasts of all time. The US she also tried to market sporting goods and models following her departure from her home country.
